THURSDAY NIGHT: The TinCaps defeated the Cubs, 5-1. Osvaldo Hernandez went 5 innings, allowed 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 4 to keep his ERA at 1.81, the lowest in the MWL.
MWL PITCHERS OF THE YEAR: Osvaldo Hernandez has been named the Midwest League's Left-Handed Pitcher of the Year and Travis Radke (currently with Triple-A El Paso) is the MWL's Left-Handed Reliever of the Year.
BEST TOOLS: According to a Baseball America survey of MWL managers, TinCaps lefty Nick Margevicius (now with High-A Lake Elsinore) earned "Best Control," while shortstop Gabriel Arias earned "Best Infield Arm" and center fielder Jeisson Rosario "Best Defensive Outfielder."
COUNTDOWN TO 4 MILLION: The TinCaps welcomed their 4,000,000th fan to Parkview Field in the ballpark's 10th season on Thursday. The team gave away $4,000 in TinCaps hospitality, season tickets, merchandise, and other prizes to Amy Johnson of Kendallville, who was at the game with her husband and 2 teenage sons. 10 other fans received $400 gift cards and 20 fans received $100 gift cards (so a grand total of $10,000 was given away).
KEY ADDITIONS: Olivier Basabe has hit safely in 6 of his first 7 games as a TinCap since joining the team last Wednesday... Owen Miller has hit safely in 6 of 8... Both were Northwest League All-Stars with Short-Season Tri-City.
RUIZ RIGHTS SHIP: Esteury Ruiz had 3 hits on Tuesday for his first multi-hit game since Aug. 3 and his first game with at least 3 hits since a 4-hit performance on July 19... Ruiz also stole a base Tuesday. His 40 stolen bags on the year are tied for 3rd most in the MWL.
SUWINSKI THRIVING: Over 15 games since July 31, Jack Suwinski has the highest OPS in the Midwest League at 1.128. Suwinski has slashed .365/.435/.692 with 5 doubles, 4 homers, and 13 RBIs in this range. He's been at his best at home this season, where he's hit all 9 of his home runs.
ARI-SERIOUS?!: Gabriel Arias had a 21-game on-base streak end on Monday. Nevertheless, since July 19, the 18-year-old has slashed .288/.400/.438 with 6 doubles, 2 homers, and 13 RBIs.
SELLOUT CITY: The TinCaps had their 15th sellout of the season on Saturday with a crowd of 8,456 - the 3rd largest of the year here. Fort Wayne has drawn 347,513 fans for an average of 5,605 across 62 openings. The TinCaps rank 2nd out of 100 Single-A/Short-Season teams in attendance, and better than 27 out of 30 Double-A clubs and 13 of 30 in Triple-A.
ON THE SHELF: The TinCaps currently have 5 players on the Disabled List in catcher Luis Campusano (concussion), infielder Justin Lopez (broken left thumb), outfielders Robbie Podorsky (back spasms) and Tirso Ornelas (right hand bone bruise), and reliever Jose Quezada.
