Cedar Rapids, IA - The third game of a season-long nine-game road trip did not to the Peoria Chiefs way as the visitors fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 7-1 Friday night in the rubber game of the series. The loss drops the Chiefs to 70-52 on the season and they finished the season series 6-7 against the Kernels, a potential Western Division Finals foe in September.

Cedar Rapids grabbed an unearned lead in the bottom of the first against Peoria starter Angel Rondon. Gabriel Maciel led off with a single and moved to second on an errant pickoff throw by Rondon. A grounder moved Maciel to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Helman for a 1-0 lead.

The Chiefs tied the game in the third against Jordan Balazovic. Nick Plummer drew a walk with one out, moved to second on a groundout and a Wood Myers single put runners on the corners, Plummer scored to tie the game on a wild pitch though Myers was stranded at second.

Maciel led off the bottom of the third with a triple and he scored on another sacrifice fly by Helman to put the hosts back on top. They finished off the Chiefs with a four-run sixth inning as the Chiefs committed three errors and Trey Cabbage hit a three-run homer. Cabbage put the Kernels on top 7-1 with a single in the eighth off Fabian Blanco.
