Bats Back Bartlett's Beauty
August 17, 2018 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa- Cole Bartlett (4-2) gave himself quite the going away party for the Kane County Cougars (28-25, 63-59) final game at Modern Woodmen Park, as the right-hander shut out the Quad Cities River Bandits (30-24, 70-54) for seven innings Friday night. Bartlett's didn't cough up his first run until his season-high eighth inning of work, but the Cougars' offensive night put the game out of reach by the seventh as they took the rubber game 8-3.
Bartlett became the first Cougar pitcher to go eight frames, and just the second of the year, since Jayson McKinley's complete-game shutout against Beloit in June. Bartlett finished the day with eight innings of one run baseball, one walk and a season-high seven strikeouts.
The Cougar bats backed up Bartlett instantly when Jancarlos Cintron doubled home Jose Caballero in the first for a 1-0 lead. Terrence Connelly picked up his first RBI of the year with a sacrifice fly in the second inning to score Eudy Ramos and a 2-0 advantage against Quad Cities starter Leovanny Rodriguez (4-6). After that, the attention turned to Bartlett until the seventh.
Taking advantage of two Quad Cities errors, the Cougars tallied five hits for five runs in the seventh inning. Caballero, Cintron, Tim Susnara and Ramos all added RBI knocks.
Quad Cities made some noise in the ninth inning and scored two runs off of Juan Torres, but the Cougar reliever finished the game.
The Cougars now head home for their penultimate homestand. Lane Ratliff (5-1, 2.85) will take the mound against the Clinton LumberKings for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
