Kane County Cougars News Release
Davenport, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars (62-59, 27-25) had their six-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits (70-53, 30-23) on Thursday night at Modern Woodmen Park.
In the bottom of the second, Miguelangel Sierra blasted a solo homer to left-center field to make it 1-0 Bandits.
Shortly after Sierra's long ball, rain started the fall and the game was delayed for nearly two hours.
After the delay, both Cougar starter Mack Lemieux & Bandits starter Cesar Rosado were scratched. Rafael Pujols came out of the bullpen and logged three scoreless innings for the Cougars.
Ryan Grotjohn hit a solo homer in the fourth to even the score, 1-1.
Abraham Almonte's first two innings out of the pen were shutout frames. However, Almonte surrendered a solo homer to David Hensley in the eighth inning that proved to be the difference in the game. Almonte (0-4) suffered the loss.
Hansel Paulino (1-1) earned the win with two innings of scoreless ball.
The Cougars and River Bandits play game three of the three-game series Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Follow the action live on AM 1280 WBIG or on kccougars.com.
