Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Following a bye last weekend, the Portland Timbers will resume their extended road trip to start the 2018 Major League Soccer season when the team travels to face FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium on Saturday, March 24. Beginning at 12:30 p.m. (Pacific), Saturday's match against FC Dallas will be broadcast on UniMas, Univision Deportes and Twitter.
Facing FC Dallas
Saturday's match marks the 19th regular-season contest between Portland (0-2-0, 0pts) and FC Dallas (1-0-1, 4pts) since 2011. Entering Saturday's fixture, the Timbers are unbeaten in their last two league games against FC Dallas, dating back to the 2017 season. In two games played last season, Portland battled FC Dallas to a 2-2 draw at Toyota Stadium on April 29, before taking a strong 2-0 home win at Providence Park on June 10. Forward Fanendo Adi leads all active Timbers players for goals scored against FC Dallas, with four goals after recording a brace in Portland's 2-0 win last season. Adi's four goals against Dallas ranks tied as the third-most in MLS among all active players.
Extended road trip
Saturday's match against FC Dallas marks the third of five straight games on the road for the Timbers, as the club opens its eighth season in MLS. The Timbers' five-game road trip to start the 2018 season is due to the construction currently underway at Providence Park as part of phase one of the stadium expansion. During that stretch, the Timbers will travel roughly 20,000 miles, facing the LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, FC Dallas, Chicago Fire and Orlando City SC.
Scouting FC Dallas
Heading into Saturday's game, FC Dallas is unbeaten in its first two league games to start the season, drawing Real Salt Lake 1-1 on March 3 and defeating Seattle Sounders FC 3-0 on March 18, with both games taking place at Toyota Stadium. The 3-0 win against Sounders FC marked FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja's 63rd win with the club, which moved him into second place for wins in club history. Forward Roland Lamah, who scored a brace in the win against Sounders FC, leads the team in goals scored (2) so far this season. Additionally, outside of league play, FC Dallas has played two matches in the CONCACAF Champions League, falling 3-3 on aggregate to Panamanian side Tauro FC in the Round of 16.
