Timbers open preseason camp in Arizona, play first preseason game Tuesday
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers kicked off a 12-day preseason camp in Tucson, Ariz., on Monday, as they continue their preseason preparations leading up to the 2013 MLS season. While in Tucson, the Timbers will open their slate of preseason matches, playing the first of four matches at the Kino Sports Complex this morning against the Colorado Rapids at 10 a.m. (Pacific).
Under head coach Caleb Porter, the Timbers opened preseason last week in Portland, conducting training sessions at JELD-WEN Field. Among the players in camp are new Timbers goalkeeper Milos Kocic, defenders Michael Harrington and Ryan Miller, midfielders Steven Evans, Mobi Fehr, Will Johnson and Diego Valeri and forward Ryan Johnson. There are four non-roster players currently in camp.
Timbers' four preseason matches in Tucson are all a part of The Desert Friendlies; a complete schedule is listed below. Tickets to all of The Desert Friendlies can be purchased online at www.fctucson.ticketsocket.com .
The Timbers return to Portland on Friday, Feb. 8, and will finish their preseason training in the Rose City. Portland plays host to its second-annual preseason tournament at JELD-WEN Field from Feb. 17-23. In addition to the Timbers, the tournament will feature Swedish club AIK and MLS sides FC Dallas and San Jose Earthquakes playing a series of doubleheaders.
Portland opens the 2013 regular season on Sunday, March 3, by playing host to the New York Red Bulls at JELD-WEN Field on ESPN2 at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific).

Wallace, Costa Rica claim 2013 Copa Centroamericana title
On Sunday, Timbers defender/midfielder Rodney Wallace and the Costa Rica National Team defeated Honduras 1-0 at Estadio Nacional in San Jos é, Costa Rica, to win the 2013 Copa Centroamericana championship. The win gave Costa Rica its seventh Central American championship.
Wallace, who has been in camp with the national team since Jan. 7, played in all five of Costa Rica's matches during the tournament and scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 semifinal victory over El Salvador to put the country in the final. He started three of his five appearances during the tournament.
In the semifinal on Jan. 25, Wallace entered the match against El Salvador in the 65th minute and tallied the decisive goal just seven minutes later on a diving header. It was his third international goal and his second game-winning strike for Costa Rica.
As one of the top five countries in the tournament, Costa Rica also qualified for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will be held this summer.
Wallace, who now has 14 caps since making his international debut in September 2011, will remain with Costa Rica through the country's 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Panama on Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Panama City.
Timbers Reserves to face USL PRO side VSI Tampa Bay as part of new MLS, USL partnership
Major League Soccer and United Soccer Leagues unveiled a groundbreaking partnership last week that will enhance the development of professional soccer players in North America, strengthen the competition in both leagues, and establish a solid foundation for future collaboration. One element of the partnership includes interleague play between MLS Reserve League and USL PRO teams in 2013. With the announcement of the 2013 USL PRO schedule last Thursday, it was unveiled that the Timbers Reserves will play a home-and-away series with expansion side VSI Tampa Bay .
The Timbers Reserves' full 2013 MLS Reserve League schedule will be announced at a later date.
Tickets for Timbers preseason tournament go on sale Feb. 5
Tickets for the Timbers' preseason tournament, featuring MLS sides FC Dallas and San Jose Earthquakes as well as Sweden's AIK, go on sale to the public on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the JELD-WEN Field box office and online at www.portlandtimbers.com.
Portland plays host to its second-annual preseason tournament at JELD-WEN Field from Feb. 17-23. The tournament will consist of three doubleheaders at JELD-WEN Field, with the three clubs playing a round-robin format. Click here for full details and a tournament schedule.
Timbers 2013 season ticket holders will receive tickets for all three days of the tournament as part of their ticket package.
JELD-WEN Field among host venues announced for CONCACAF's 2013 Gold Cup
The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football Association (CONCACAF) announced that Portland and JELD-WEN Field are among the 13 host cities and venues that will welcome the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup from July 7-28.
Portland is one of six new cities and JELD-WEN Field is one of eight new world-class venues that will play host to the 2013 edition of the Gold Cup, as the region's premier national team tournament continues to expand its footprint across the United States. Taking place every two years, the Gold Cup has established itself as the region's most popular national team tournament, routinely drawing capacity crowds and millions of viewers across the region. Featuring the best players from the confederation, the tournament includes the top 12 nations in the region.
Timbers looking for official pub partners throughout greater-Portland area
The Timbers are in search of the best local pubs in and around Portland to be official Timbers pubs for the 2013 season. Most Timbers-affiliated pubs will have a chance to host an official viewing party for an away match and all pubs will receive Timbers merchandise to use their establishment. Portland selects two players in 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft
The Timbers selected two players in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft - goalkeeper David Meves and midfielder/forward Chris Hegngi.
Portland held the third pick in each round of the four-round Supplemental Draft, selecting Meves, from the University of Akron, with the No. 3 overall pick. Hegngi, from Ohio State University, was selected No. 22 overall in the second round. The Timbers opted not to select a player in the third and fourth rounds.
Meves joined the Timbers' preseason camp late last week.
Timbers U-23s announce 2013 tryout details
The Timbers U-23s, the development team for the Timbers, will conduct player tryouts March 9-10 and March 23-24, at Portland's Lincoln High School as the team prepares for the 2013 Premier Development League season, presented by Billups Worldwide.
The tryouts are open to players 17 years of age and older. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present at the tryout. The registration fee is $125. Interested players can register online at http://registration.portlandtimbers.com ; space is limited.
Thorns FC announce season ticket details for inaugural 2013 season
Portland Thorns FC have announced season ticket details for the inaugural 2013 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) campaign.
All regular-season home matches are tentatively scheduled to be played at JELD-WEN Field, with season ticket prices throughout the stadium's lower bowl set at $9 per game for general admission, $15 for touch line reserved seats and $22 for club seats.
Current Portland Timbers season ticket holders have first priority to purchase Thorns FC season tickets, while fans on the Timbers Season Ticket Waiting List maintain second priority, and those who have submitted a refundable $25 deposit for Thorns FC season tickets have the third priority followed by the general public.
