PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers play the second game of a home-and-away series against the Colorado Rapids tonight at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.; kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (Pacific).

Tonight's match will be broadcast live nationally on the NBC Sports Network. Radio broadcasts of the match will be available on 750 AM The Game and in Spanish on La Pantera 940 AM.

Earning eight points in five matches in the month of August, the Timbers (7-13-6, 27pts) earned three points in a 1-0 win over Colorado on Aug. 31 at JELD-WEN Field. Forward Bright Dike scored his second goal of the season just before halftime in the 45th minute. The goal was assisted by midfielder Sal Zizzo, his third assist in the last three games, and forward/midfielder Darlington Nagbe, his first of the 2012 campaign.

Colorado (8-17-2, 26pts) is playing its first home match since Aug. 18, when the club fell to San Jose, 4-1. The team has struggled at home of late, going 1-3-1 in its last five at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. In the first meeting of the season between the Rapids and Timbers on June 30, Colorado struck twice within a five-minute period in the first half to hold a 2-0 advantage at halftime. The Rapids added another goal just before the final whistle to win 3-0 at DSG Park.

TIMBERS GAME NOTES vs. COLORADO

- Wednesday's match will be the fifth all-time MLS meeting between Colorado and Portland. The Rapids hold a 3-1-0 all-time advantage over the Timbers.

- With the 1-0 victory over Colorado on Aug. 31, Portland defeated the Rapids for the first time in MLS play.

- With their victory over Colorado last week, the Timbers won back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

- With an assist against Colorado on Aug. 31, midfielder Sal Zizzo now has three assists and one goal his last four matches.

- The shutout earned by the Timbers against Colorado on Aug. 31 was the first shutout by the club since May 15 against Houston. Additionally, goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts earned his first shutout as a member of the Timbers.

- Midfielder Darlington Nagbe, who has recorded either a goal or an assist in each of the past four games, can match midfielder Jack Jewsbury's club-record, five-game point streak with a goal or an assist Wednesday night.

- Portland finished August with a 2-1-2 record - the club's most successful month of the 2012 campaign.

Join the Timbers' official viewing party on Wednesday

Fans are invited to join the Timbers' official viewing party this week, presented by ROOT SPORTS, to watch the club as it travels to Colorado. Fans can watch the Timbers take on the Rapids from Scotty's Pub and Sports Bar at 6 p.m. (Pacific).

Scotty's Pub and Sports Bar is located at 12122 Southwest Scholls Ferry Road in Portland. The viewing party is open to fans 21 and over and will feature giveaways. The first 25 fans that arrive at Scotty's will receive a free Timbers pub program t-shirt.

Three Timbers called up for national team duty

Timbers midfielder Lovel Palmer (Jamaica) and defenders Steve Purdy (El Salvador) and Rodney Wallace (Costa Rica) have been recalled by their respective national teams for upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

All three players departed after the Timbers match against Colorado on Aug. 31, and are scheduled to return on Sept. 12. Click here for the official release.

Palmer and the Jamaica National Team face the United States on Friday, Sept. 7, in Jamaica and then on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The matchup on Sept. 11 will be nationally televised on ESPN2.

Purdy and the El Salvador National Team play host to Guyana on Sept. 7, before traveling to face Guyana on Sept. 11. Wallace and Costa Rica play host Mexico on Sept. 7 and then will travel to Mexico City to face Mexico on Sept. 11.

Timbers, The UPS Store and Schoolhouse Supplies team up to hand out school supplies

On Wednesday morning, Timbers players Freddie Braun and Sebastián RincÃ"n were among a team of roughly 20 volunteers from the Timbers and The UPS Store delivering and distributing more than 650 backpacks filled with school supplies to students at Portland's Jason Lee School as part of Schoolhouse Supplies' "Tools for Schools" drive.

The Timbers, in partnership with Schoolhouse Supplies and The UPS Store, have annually helped fill and distribute hundreds of backpacks to students at Jason Lee School. Over the past five years, the Timbers have helped distribute more than 14,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students.

Timbers Youth Academy kicks off this weekend

The Portland Timbers U-16s and U-18s Academy teams kick off their inaugural season this weekend as they head to Southern California to play the Chivas USA Academy and LA Galaxy Academy teams. The Timbers Academy teams will play Chivas USA on Saturday before squaring off with the LA Galaxy Sunday.

The Timbers Youth Academy is a member of the Northwest Division in the Western Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. They will play a 25-game schedule over 10 months, ranging from September-June, and July with playoffs added in. The Timbers youth teams will play clubs from up and down the West Coast, including teams from Seattle, Vancouver, B.C., San Jose and Los Angeles.

Defender Steven Smith wins MLS Save of the Week for Week 25

For his goal-line save that preserved a 2-1 win over Vancouver on Aug. 25, defender Steven Smith won MLSsoccer.com's Save of the Week for Week 25. With goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts off his line after making a save, Smith headed away a follow-up shot by Whitecaps FC forward Camilo at the goal line.
