Portland Timbers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Following a 3-0 win at home against Real Salt Lake to clinch a berth in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, the Portland Timbers conclude the regular season on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday, Oct. 28, at BC Place. Beginning at 1:30 p.m. (Pacific), the match features a television broadcast on ROOT SPORTS and local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

Playoff bound

With their win over Real Salt Lake on Oct. 21, the Timbers (15-9-9, 54pts) clinched a berth in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs. It marks the first time Portland has qualified for the postseason in consecutive seasons in the MLS era. Results of Sunday's Decision Day matches will determine final seeding in the playoffs, with just three points separating second and fifth place in the current Western Conference standings.

Recent form

Portland is unbeaten in its last three matches (2-0-1) after recording back-to-back wins against Real Salt Lake, with five different players scoring goals for the Timbers during that span. Sebastián Blanco continued his strong run of form, recording a goal and an assist in the Timbers win at home against Real Salt Lake, while Larrys Mabiala and Diego Chara also added goals in the win.

Winning form

The Timbers win against Real Salt Lake was their 15th of the season, which is tied for the most wins in a single season (2015, 2017) in the club's MLS era. With 15 wins, head coach Giovanni Savarese is now tied for the third-most wins by a head coach in his first year as an MLS head coach. A win on Sunday would give Portland 57 points, tying the club's MLS record for points in a season set in 2013.

Against Whitecaps FC

Sunday's match marks the 22nd meeting in MLS play during the regular season between Portland and Vancouver (12-13-8, 44pts). The Timbers lead the all-time series with a record of 10-5-6, including a mark of 4-3-2 at BC Place. Portland has won three of the last four meetings, including Portland's last match on the road against Vancouver - a 2-1 win at BC Place on July 23, 2017. Jeremy Ebobisse recorded a goal and an assist, while Blanco notched the game-winner.
