PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers continue their stretch of three games in a seven-day span, squaring off against Minnesota United FC for the second time in four days on Wednesday, Aug. 7, in the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minn. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ with pregame starting at 4:45 p.m. (Pacific). Portland will then return home to play host to Vancouver Whitecaps FC, in a match presented by Keep Oregon Green, on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Providence Park. U.S. Open Cup history

The Timbers advanced to this year's semifinal round of the tournament with a 1-0 shutout victory over Los Angeles FC in their quarterfinal matchup on July 10 at Banc of California Stadium, with Jeremy Ebobisse scoring the game-winner in the 84th minute. With the win, the Timbers advanced to the semifinals for the second time in club history (2013, 2019). In three U.S. Open Cup matches in 2019, Portland has recorded two shutouts, outscoring opponents 7-1 in those matches. Since 2013, the Timbers have won 10 matches in U.S. Open Cup play, which is tied for the most wins by an MLS team in the competition during that span.

Home form

As they return for their league game against Whitecaps FC following Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup game, the Timbers (9-9-4, 31pts) are unbeaten in their last six home matches in all competitions, posting a record of 4-0-2. During their home unbeaten streak, the Timbers have outscored their opponents 16-3, recording four shutouts. Portland has scored two or more goals in four of their last six home games, including a pair of 4-0 wins in league play on June 22 against Houston and July 27 against the LA Galaxy. Individually, seven players have scored a goal for Portland over the last six home games, including two or more goals from Ebobisse, Brian Fernandez, Cristhian Paredes and Diego Valeri.

Against Vancouver

Saturday's match marks the 24th meeting in MLS regular-season play between Vancouver and Portland. The Timbers lead the all-time series with a record of 10-7-6. At home, Portland is 6-2-4 all-time against Whitecaps FC and has won three of the last four matches against Vancouver at Providence Park. After suffering five consecutive losses, Whitecaps FC earned a draw on the road against Minnesota and a win at FC Cincinnati in their most recent games. Fredy Montero leads the way for Vancouver with six goals and two assists.

Next match

The Timbers play host to the Chicago Fire on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Providence Park. Beginning at 8 p.m. (Pacific), the match will be broadcast on ROOT SPORTS with local radio broadcasts on 1029 and 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
