Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Playing their fifth road match as part of 12 straight road games to begin the season, the Portland Timbers travel to square off against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, April 6, at Avaya Stadium. Beginning at 5 p.m. (Pacific), Saturday's match will feature a local television broadcast on ROOT SPORTS with local radio broadcasts on 1029 and 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
Against the Earthquakes
Saturday's match marks 22nd meeting in MLS regular-season play between San Jose and Portland, with the Timbers holding a 10-4-7 advantage in the series. Portland has won five of the last seven meetings against the Earthquakes, including both meetings during the 2018 regular season. In the last match on the road against San Jose, the Timbers registered a 1-0 win as Diego Valeri recorded a late game-winner off a direct free kick on May 5, 2018. Valeri has recorded six goals and eight assists in his career against the Earthquakes.
Extended road trip
Portland's game on Saturday is the fifth game of 12 games on the road to begin the season, as the club opens its ninth season in MLS. The Timbers' 12-game road trip to start the 2019 season is due to completion work on the $85 million transformation of Providence Park. During that stretch, the Timbers will travel roughly 30,000 miles, including trips to Dallas, Columbus, Toronto, Houston and Philadelphia.
Scouting San Jose
San Jose (0-4-0, 0pts) enters Saturday's match after falling to Los Angeles FC 5-0 at home on March 30. Through the first four games of the season, the Earthquakes have tallied two goals, scored by Magnus Eriksson and Cristian Espinoza. Forward Chris Wondolowski continues to chase the MLS all-time scoring record, having recorded 143 goals, which ranks second all-time, just two behind the all-time leader Landon Donovan (145 goals).

The Timbers face FC Dallas on Saturday, April 13, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Beginning at 5 p.m. (Pacific), the match will feature a local television broadcast on FOX 12 PLUS (KPDX) with local radio broadcasts on 1029 and 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
