MNUFC Loans out Four Loons to Forward Madison
April 4, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minnesota United announced today that the club will send four players to Forward Madison for the 2019 season, with a right to recall the players at any time throughout the duration of the loan. Defenders Carter Manley and Wyatt Omsberg, goalkeeper Dayne St. Claire and forward Mason Toye will join the Flamingos ahead of the team's inaugural USL League One season opener away to Chattanooga Red Wolves this Saturday.
"Obviously it's a good opportunity for us to get four guys more minutes," said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath. "One of the difficulties we've found over the last couple years is we like the guys that we've drafted but we haven't been able to get them enough football. Once again, this gives the perfect opportunity for them to go down, playing meaningful games, getting meaningful minutes. We just think, long-term, it's going be beneficial for everybody concerned."
Manley was selected 23rd overall by MNUFC in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft from Duke University. He made his professional debut with the Loons on March 24 at RBNY and earned his first assist on April 14 at POR. Omsberg was selected 15th overall by MNUFC in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft from Dartmouth College, where he was a two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and three-time, first-team All-Ivy honoree. He made his pro debut as a starter in the 3-0 loss to NY on March 24.
Rookie St. Claire was selected 7th overall by MNUFC from Maryland, where he recently leading the Terrapins to the 2018 NCAA National Championship. He did not allow a goal in the final 500 minutes of the season and at Maryland worked with coach Sasho Cirovski, who is known for his work with current USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen. Toye was selected seventh overall by MNUFC in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft from Indiana University. The Generation adidas forward earned tremendous accolades during his freshman year with the Hoosiers, leading the Big Ten with 10 goals on the season (including five game-winners) and adding a pair of assists to win Big Ten Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Big Ten accolades among others. He made his MLS debut in the 2-1 win over ORL on March 10, 2018, assisting Ethan Finlay's winner. During the 2018 season, Toye played 17 games, starting two of them, recording one assist.
