
Timbers to Host Mexico's Club America

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers announced today that they will play host to accomplished Mexican side Club América in an international exhibition on Thursday, July 7, at JELD-WEN Field; kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Details regarding tickets for the friendly against Club América will be announced at a later time.
Based in Mexico City, Club América is one of the most successful clubs in Mexican soccer, having won 33 total championships since its founding in 1916. The club boasts 14 league championships, including five Primera Divisi�n titles during the 1980s, winning their most recent during the 2005 Clausura season. Club América is a five-time winner of the CONCACAF Champions League and competed in the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup.
Club América features Mexico National Team goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, a member of Mexico's squad for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, and recent Mexico call-ups defender Juan Carlos Valenzuela and forwards Enrique Esqueda and Angel Reyna. The club's roster includes several players with international experience, including defenders Oscar Rojas (Mexico) and Aquivaldo Mosquera (Colombia) as well as midfielders Vicente Sánchez (Uruguay) and Pável Pardo, who has 148 caps with the Mexican National Team.
With three matches remaining in the 2011 Clausura season, Club América sits on top of the Primera Divisi�n's Group 2 in a two-way tie with Atlante. Reyna paces the team in scoring with nine goals in 14 league games. Club América is also competing in the 2011 Copa Libertadores and sits on top of their group with just one match remaining in the group stage of one of South America's most prestigious tournaments.
