Timbers, Thorns FC, Fans and Partners Raise over $500,000 and Counting for Unicef Relief Efforts in Ukraine

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers and Thorns FC came together on Wednesday night in front of 16,921 fans at Providence Park for a historic mixed-teams charity match - PTFC For Peace - and with the effort of the club, fans and partners raised a combined $500,000 and counting, which includes a $100,000 donation from the club, for UNICEF's relief efforts in Ukraine and bordering countries. The final donation tally is ongoing through May 5th with an auction available now at www.PTFC.givesmart.com with game-worn shirts from the event and other items including flags and the game ball.

Timbers head coach Gio Savarese and Team Yellow faced off against Thorns FC head coach Rhian Wilkinson and Team Blue. Team Yellow narrowly came out on top 4-3 over Team Blue. Nathan Fogaca opened the scoring by putting Team Yellow on the board in the ninth minute, assisted by Madison Pogarch and Morgan Weaver. Team Blue equalized quickly after with a goal from Hannah Betfort, assisted by Johan Hinestroza, in the 23rd minute. Team Yellow snuck two more in before the end of the first half, with goals from Yimmi Chara and a second for Fogaca.

Midway through the second half, Jaroslaw Niezgoda drew one back for Team Blue to make it 3-2. Team Yellow scored their fourth goal of the match in the 54th minute from Selmir Miscic. In an unexpected turn of events, both benches rushed the field for the final minutes of the match in an effort to secure a result, including head coach Gio Savarese of Team Yellow. Savarese helped assist a goal that was eventually called back for being offside. Ukranian Timbers Academy player Vovas Kubrakov tallied the last goal for Team Blue in the 57th minute to finish the match with a score of 4-3 in favor of Team Yellow.

All donations and proceeds surrounding the event will support UNICEF's relief efforts in Ukraine and bordering countries. To donate visit www.unicefusa.org/PTFC. An online auction is live now at www.PTFC.givesmart.com with game-worn shirts from the event and other items including flags and the game ball. All money raised from the auction will be donated to the relief efforts.

Supporting partners of the event included adidas, Dutch Bros, SeatGeek, Nike, Tillamook, Toyota and Umpqua Bank along with presenting media partner, The Oregonian. AMR (American Medical Response), Bike Racker, Coast to Coast, Janiking, Levy Restaurants, LNS Captioning, Personal Protection Associates, PRO Referees and Willamette Building Services also donated their time and services to the event.
