Tigers Win Opening Night, 7-5

NORWICH, CT- The Connecticut Tigers (4-2) opened play at Dodd Stadium with a 7-2 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones (2-4), affiliate of the New York Mets.

After a quiet night at the plate yesterday, the Tigers exploded in front of the home faithful in the first three innings. Blaise Salter (2-3, HR, 3RBI) )opened the scoring in the first, hitting a two-run dinger, his first of the year, to push the Tigers ahead by a pair.

After another tally in the second, the Tigers added three more in the third. Cole Bauml (3-4, 2B, and 1RBI) slapped an RBI-double to left center field to make it 4-0 Tigers. Mario Sanjur (2-4, 2B, 2RBI) quickly followed suit, doubling down the left field line, driving in two more runs.

Ryan Castellanos (1-0) had a strong home debut, picking up his first win of 2016. Castellanos logged six innings of work, allowing just two hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out a couple Cyclones hitters.

Taylor Hicks and Adenson Verastegui were exceptional out of the bullpen. Both bullpen arms pitched 1-2-3 frames and kept the lead at 7-2 for Connecticut.

The Cyclones battled back in the top of the ninth, scoring three runs on four hits and a Tigers error. Yordy Cabrera managed to get Nick Sergakis to ground back to the mound to end the ballgame, 7-5.

The Tigers go for their second straight series-win tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. against the Cyclones. Alfred Gutierrez gets the ball for the Tigers, seeking his first win for the Tigers.
