Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers are happy to announce the club has signed defenceman Josh Van Mulligen to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.
"I am so honoured to sign with a first class organization like the Tigers. It's even more special to do so with my hometown team I grew up cheering for. I'm so excited for this opportunity and can't wait to see what the future holds," said Van Mulligen.
The 2005 born Medicine Hat native was drafted in the second round, 39th overall by the Tigers in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
"Josh is an aggressive two way defenceman. He competes hard and is engaged in all three zones. He can be a difference maker both offensively and defensively," said Bobby Fox, Director of Player Personnel.
Van Mulligen played for the South East Athletic Club Tigers Bantam AAA during the 2019-20 season in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL). He collected 27 points (13G, 14A) in 31 games played. The SEAC Tigers finished in third place in the Ram South Division with an 11-19-3 record. Van Mulligen also played up for the SEAC Tigers Minor Midget AAA team in the Alberta Midget Minor Hockey League (AMMHL) for one game where he collected two points (1G, 1A).
"We are excited to draft a local player, especially someone with Josh's ability. He is certainly trending and he is a player that is improving day by day. We are excited to welcome him and his family to the Tigers program," said Willie Desjardins, Head Coach and General Manager.
