Tigers' Hamblin Named WHL on the Run Player of the Week

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Medicine Hat Tigers captain James Hamblin has been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending November 10, 2019.

Hamblin led all WHL players with eight points (3G-5A) in three games while also maintaining a plus-three rating. The Tigers scored a pair of victories in those three games to remain within five points of the Edmonton Oil Kings for the lead in the Central Division.

Wednesday, Hamblin scored twice in a 5-4 victory against the Prince George Cougars. The Tigers' captain scored the second and fourth goals of the game for his team and was subsequently named the first star of the game.

In Friday's 8-5 win against the Kelowna Rockets, Hamblin recorded three assists. The 20-year-old forward contributed to the third, seventh, and eighth goals of the game for the Tigers. Saturday, Hamblin closed out his weekend with a goal and two assists in a 7-3 loss to the Kamloops Blazers.

The 5-foot-10, 181-pound product of Edmonton, Alta. is currently tied for third in WHL scoring with 28 points (12G-16A) through 19 games. Hamblin's totals include four power-play goals, one short-handed goal, and one game-winning goal.

Originally chosen by the Tigers with the 17th-overall selection of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, Hamblin has spent his entire WHL career with the Tigers. In 280 WHL regular season games, Hamblin has 220 points (91G-129A), including 30 power-play goals, 11 short-handed goals, and 14 game-winning goals.

Hamblin has also appeared in 17 WHL playoff games with the Tigers, totaling 12 points (7G-5A). Those figures include one power-play goal and two short-handed goals.

With their B.C. Division road trip now completed, the Tigers return to action in Alberta on Friday, November 15 (7:00 p.m. MT) when they visit the Red Deer Rebels at Westerner Park Centrium.
