Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Regina, SK - Zane Rowan's 4th of the season in overtime gave the Medicine Hat Tigers their second loss of the weekend in a 5-4 decision to the Regina Pats Saturday night.

Despite being outshot 5-0 early in the first period and giving up two power plays to the Pats. Tigers goaltender Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) would stand tall making eight 1st period stops. The Tigers would open the scoring at 10:35 as Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would bury his 22nd of the season over the shoulder of Pats goaltender Ewan Huet. Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) & Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) would draw assists. Medicine Hat would take the one goal lead into the 2nd period.

A busy second period sees the Tigers increase their lead to 2-0 as Andrew Basha would fire home his 19th of the season at 5:12 to make it 2-0 Tigers. The Tigers thought they had kept the Pats at bay with an incredible display of goaltending from Zahara but after video review at 8:54 Logan Peskett would get the Pats on the board to cut the Tigers lead at 2-1. Regina would tie it at 2-2 shortly after at 14:17 as Tyson Buczkowski would beat a screened Zach Zahara making it interesting on the even 2-2 game. But 43 seconds later Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) would make it 3-2 Tigers with exactly five minutes to go in the period. Jack Kachkowski (St.Albert, AB) would get his first WHL point on the mark and Andrew Basha would come away with his third point of the night as the Tigers would take that lead to the final 20.

The third period would see two goals in the first minute. 31 seconds in, Regina would tie the game at 3-3 on Tye Spencer's shot on a two-on-one for his 13th of the season. Then off the ensuing draw at centre ice, Hunter St.Martin (Edmonton,AB) would one-time his 17th of the season from Andrew Basha 14 seconds later to give the Tigers their third lead of the night.

Regina would get the game tying goal at 11:19 as Braxton Whitehead would solve Zahara to draw even at 4-4. Despite a four-minute power play right before the end of the third, the Tigers would not be able to take the lead again and overtime was necessary Saturday.

In the extra session, Zane Rowan would give the Pats their 16th win of the season with 34.1 seconds left in overtime to help Regina prevail over the Tigers.

With the loss the Tigers move to 27-14-3 moving into the final game of the three-in-three Sunday afternoon in Brandon.

The Tigers will face the Wheat Kings for the final time at Westoba Place at 3 PM MT, you can catch the broadcast on WILD 94.5 with Gino De Paoli, starting with the pre-game show at 2:45.
