Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

LAKELAND, FL (June 2nd, 2011) -- Offensive woes continued for the Miracle on the road in Lakeland, falling 4-0 to the Flying Tigers on Thursday night at Joker Marchant Stadium. It was the third time in the last seven games the Miracle have been shutout, also losing 5-0 and 1-0 to Clearwater last week at Hammond Stadium.

Fort Myers managed just five singles on the night, losing their fourth straight game, and ninth in their last 11. Even with the recent skid, the Miracle likely will remain only one game back of St. Lucie in the FSL South with 16 games to play. At the conclusion of the game in Lakeland, the Mets were trailing the Threshers, 7-1.

Both teams traded zeros until the Tigers rallied for all four of their runs with two outs in the sixth inning against Miracle starter Logan Darnell. Tony Plagman hit a double down the first base line to keep the inning alive. After a walk to Gaynor, Darnell surrendered four consecutive singles to give Lakeland a 4-0 lead.

That was more than enough for Tigers starter Victor Larez (4-3), who allowed just five hits in seven shutout innings for the win. Darnell (2-1) was tagged with his first loss of the year, giving up four earned runs on nine hits in six innings.

Miracle reliever Andrew Albers was a bright spot, striking out five of six batters in two scoreless innings. Used as both a starter and reliever this season, Albers has been nearly unhittable coming out of the bullpen, extending a scoreless innings streak to 20 tonight.

Fort Myers (28-26) looks to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Flying Tigers (29-25) as they wrap up the four-game seres on Friday night at 7 p.m. It will be the final game for the Miracle against the FSL North in the first half, before finishing with 15 games against South foes, starting with three games against Jupiter beginning Saturday night at Hammond Stadium.
