Tiger-Cats add more O-line depth

Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release

It's a well-known fact that in the CFL, you're only as good as your Canadian players. And, the more depth you have at offensive line, the better.

Case in point, the Tiger-Cats have signed centre Jean-Francois Joncas to a contract. The Laval University grad, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 290 pounds, signed as a free agent with the club in May of 2003. He played four years with the Rouge et Or, from 1999-2002, and was a unanimous pick as a Conference All-Star in his last two seasons.

Tiger-Cats offensive line coach Mark Murray, had Joncas at training camp last year. "He comes from a great program at Laval," he said. "He had a lot of success there. He came to us a little under-developed and raw, and we felt all he needed was another year to put himself in a position to make the team."

Joncas took that advice to heart. "I visited with Jeff, as we call him, a while ago, and he looks really good. He's put on some weight, increased his strength, so, physically, he's put himself in a good position to compete," added Murray.

Joncas will be training camp at McMaster University in Hamilton, later this month.
