Tiger-Cat Fullback Named Outstanding Rookie in East Division

The Canadian Football league today announced the Division nominees for the Rogers AT & T CFL Player Awards and rookie Tiger-Cat fullback JULIAN RADLEIN was honoured with the nomination as Outstanding Rookie in the East Division.

As Hamilton's 1st round pick (3rd overall) in the 2003 Canadian College Draft, the 23 year old UBC grad led the Tiger-Cats in touchdowns this season with a total of 7 as he carried the ball 53 times for a total of 153 yards. He also caught 20 passes for 169 yards.

Considered one of the most feared running backs in western Canada collegiate circles, the 6-2, 245 pound Radlein also had a reputation as a devastating blocker.

The Outstanding Rookie nomination in the West Division of the CFL went to BC Lions rookie import wide receiver and returner FRANK CUTOLO. A productive receiver at the University of Illinois, Cutolo enjoyed a productive rookie season with the Lions with a combined yardage total of 2339 yards, second in the CFL.

Among other East Division nominees announced today were four members of the Montreal Alouettes; quarterback Anthony Calvillo as Outstanding Player; slotback Ben Cahoon as Outstanding Canadian; linebacker Kevin Johnson as ADT Outstanding Defensive Player and offensive Guard Scott Flory as Outstanding Lineman. In the Outstanding Special Teams category (John Agro Trophy), the nod went to return sensation Bashir Levingston of the Toronto Argonauts.

In the West Division, BC Lions quarterback Dave Dickenson was nominated as Outstanding Player; Saskatchewan Roughrider fullback Chris Szarka as Outstanding Canadian and Roughrider offensive guard Andrew Greene as Outstanding Lineman; Calgary Stampeders defensive tackle Joe Fleming as ADT Outstanding Defensive Player with Stampeders wide receiver and punt returner Wayne McGarity nominated in the Outstanding Special Teams category (John Agro Trophy).

The overall winners will be announced on Friday, November 14, 2003 during the Rogers AT &T CFL Player Awards Ceremony in Regina, Saskatchewan...site of the 91st Grey Cup game!
