Toronto, ON (October 28, 2003) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today that the 2003 Grey Cup will headline an all Canadian musical roster during its halftime show, including internationally acclaimed Bryan Adams and rising Canadian star Sam Roberts. This year's championship, to be hosted on November 16th, 2003 at Taylor Field in Regina, Saskatchewan, represents the 91st Grey Cup game.
With a career spanning more than 25 years and worldwide album sales exceeding 60 million, Bryan Adams is in every sense a world superstar. The recipient of numerous awards including 17 Juno Awards, a Grammy, an American Music Award, countless industry and songwriting awards and accolades including three Academy Award nominations for his work on film soundtracks, Bryan Adams is a recognized symbol of Canada wherever he performs. Adams released his second greatest hits collection, "The Best Of Me" in 1999 as a follow-up to his first greatest hits album in 1993, So Far So Good which has sold over 14 million copies worldwide. His most recent album release was a soundtrack for the DreamWorks animated feature Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron which was released in 2002 and features the hit single "Here I Am".
Montreal native, Sam Roberts, has leapt into the Canadian and international music scenes with the runaway hit "Where Have All the Good People Gone", #1 on Canadian music charts. He has followed with the new single "Hard Road" from the same album, "We Were Born In A Flame" with sales now approaching Platinum status in Canada. Robert's talents have been recognized across North America with a career trajectory that will ensure him the position as another great musical âexport' from Canada.
"The Grey Cup is a national treasure and such a stage deserves the best that Canada has to offer," said Randy Lennox, President and CEO of Universal Music Canada. "With Bryan Adams as one of Canada's leading international superstars and Sam Roberts on the verge of becoming an international superstar, the 2003 half-time show promises to deliver true Canadian excitement and entertainment to CFL fans."
Singing this year's Canadian National Anthem is Kingston native and Canadian Idol finalist, Ryan Malcolm. Fans across the country will be able to tune into the 2003 Grey Cup game, and the Centrum Performance Grey Cup Halftime Show entertainment on CBC and RDS broadcasts.
"Grey Cup enthusiasts will be rocking during the CFL's 91st Grey Cup Half-time show," said Marty Klyne, President of 2003 Grey Cup Inc. "We're âGoing Flat-out in Saskatchewan', and having Canada's own Bryan Adams and Sam Roberts performing during the half-time show certainly puts the finishing touches to what is already a fantastic line up of week-long entertainment.
