Toronto Argonauts News Release
Toronto, Ont. â Toronto Argonaut cornerback Bashir Levingston is the Eastern nominee for the John Agro Award for Special Teams play, the CFL announced today. The Agro Award is one of many to be handed out at the Rogers AT&T CFL Player Awards event on Friday, November 14, in Regina. Levingston has had an outstanding year in the kick return department, finishing in second place in the CFL behind Winston October. He has returned 29 kick-offs for 881 yards and 2 touchdowns. His kick-off return average was 30.4 yards with a long return of 95 yards. He has also run back 60 punts for 811 yards and 3 touchdowns, in leading the League. He averaged 13.5 yards per return and had a long return of 94 yards. Bashir also returned 2 missed field goal runbacks for a total of 73 yards (an average of 36.5 per runback) with a long run of 46 yards.
Bashir's play was a large part of the Argonaut success on special teams play this year. His combined all-purpose yards totaled 1874 yards ranking him 9th in the CFL. And that was just on kick and punt return yardage. Levingston didn't have the benefit of any plays from scrimmage to add to his total.
This marks the first time Bashir has been nominated for a major individual CFL award and also marks the first time the Argos have had a finalist in any award category since Mike O'Shea won Top Canadian honours in 1999.
The Toronto Argonauts host the B.C. Lions on Sunday, November 2 at 4:00 PM ET in the East Division semi-final. The winner of that game will travel to Montreal to face the Alouettes in the East Division Championship presented by WestJet on Sunday, November 9 at 4:00 PM ET.
