(Calgary) - The Calgary Stampeder Football Club is pleased to announce that defensive lineman Joe Fleming is the recipient of the 2003 Presidents' Ring.

This is Joe's first time receiving the award and the 6th defensive lineman to win in its 37 year history. Stu Laird was the most recent defensive lineman to receive the award winning it 3 times in 1998, 1992 and 1995.

In 2002 Joe retired from the game only to return in 2003 and lead the team in sacks with 11, three behind the league leader Eric England.

PRESIDENTS' RING AWARD

This honour is presented annually at the conclusion of each football season to a player who is voted by his teammates as having exceptional motivational and leadership skills on and off the field.

The award was established in 1967 by then team President George McMahon and Stampeder General Manager Roger Lehew, linebacker Wayne Harris was the first ever recipient. Here's a look back past winners of the PRESIDENTS' RING AWARD:
