Norfolk Tides News Release

Eider Torres drove home Brandon Fahey with a one-out single in the bottom of the 11th, giving the Tides a 4-3 win on a blustery Sunday afternoon from Harbor Park.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the final frame, Knights' reliever Ryan Bukvich (1-2) struck out Fahey to lead off the inning, but the ball got by catcher Ryan Smith for a wild pitch, allowing Fahey to advance to first. After a sacrifice bunt by Alberto Castillo moved Fahey to second, Luis Montanez drew a walk, and Torres lined a sharp single into right-center field, giving Norfolk their first extra innings win of 2007.

Charlotte jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the contest, as Josh Fields drove home Jerry Owens with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Tides evened the score one inning later, as Mike Cervenak opened the inning with a wind-aided triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jason Dubois.

Norfolk took a 3-1 lead in the 6th inning on a two-run single by Mike Cervenak. Cervenak, who finished the game 3-for-5, extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games and upped his average to .340.

Charlotte answered back with two runs of their own in the top of the 7th, as Ernie Young drew a leadoff walk that chased Tides' starter Rob Bell. Steve Green was brought in to relieve, but Brian Anderson lined the first pitch from Green over the right field wall, plating Young and tying the score at 3-3.

Bell pitched well in his second outing of the year, as he was charged with two runs on three hits in six plus innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Victor Moreno (1-1) earned the win in relief for the Tides after the striking out the side in order in the 11th. Paul Shuey and Sean Tracey each contributed a scoreless inning of relief in the win.

Every Tides starter collected a base hit in the contest, helping Norfolk sweep the brief two-game series. Norfolk finished their six-game homestand at 4-2.

The Tides will take to the road for an eight-game road trip starting Monday night from Durham. Jon Leicester (1-2, 3.19) is slated to take the mound for Norfolk against Durham southpaw J.P. Howell (1-4, 5.23), with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m.
