Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
Felix Doubront came out on the losing end of his much-anticipated home debut for the Pawtucket Red Sox Friday night. The Paw Sox could muster only four hits in support of their starter on their way to a 3-0 loss to the Norfolk Tides.
With two RBI from second baseman Paco Figueroa and an insurance blast from first baseman Jeff Salazar in the top of the ninth inning, the Tides' got all the offense they needed in support of a pitching staff that was able to neutralize the Paw Sox lineup for nine innings.
In Doubront's first appearance at McCoy Stadium, the 22-year old Venezuelan allowed one earned run on eight hits and two walks over five innings of work for the Paw Sox. His first pitch of the evening was a fastball clocked at 94 MPH and he was effectively able to mix in offspeed pitches to dance in-and-out of trouble all evening long. Relying on six strikeouts and three double plays turned by the Paw Sox defense, Doubront was able to avoid disaster as he stranded seven runners in his outing.
The lone bright spot offensively for the Paw Sox was Bubba Bell who went 2 for 2 on the evening. Dusty Brown and Aaron Bates chipped in the other two base hits for the Paw Sox who were unable to record an extra-base hit against the Tides' starter Troy Patton and reliever Dennis Sarfate who combined on the shutout.
The series continues Saturday at 6:05 p.m. with Adam Mills (1-3, 4.15 ERA) for the Paw Sox taking on Brandon Erbe (0-8, 6.80 ERA) of the Tides in game three of a four-game series from McCoy Stadium.
