Tides Roll Over the Knights

FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights couldn't come through in two games against the Norfolk Tides. The Knights dropped both games of the doubleheader by scores of 1-0 and 6-2.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Knights were victims to an outstanding pitching performance from Norfolk's Rick VandenHurk who struck out 13 Charlotte batters. VandenHurk allowed just four hits and a walk in six scoreless innings of work.

The Tides only run of the game came in the first inning on a Jake Fox RBI single that scored Kyle Hudson. Norfolk's Mark Worrell earned the save.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Knights took an early lead on a Dayan Viciedo double but the Tides were able to tie the game in the next inning on a Rhyne Hughes RBI-groundout. The Knights pulled ahead when Charlotte newcomer Jared Price hit his second single of the game to score Justin Greene.

The scoring would end for the Knights as the Tides had a three-run fifth inning to secure a lead they would never lose. Tides' starter Chris George (6-4) earned the win and reliever Jeremy Accardo picked up his second save of the season. Knights' reliever Brian Omogrosso allowed four runs in 1.2 innings earning his first loss.

The Knights and Tides travel to Norfolk tomorrow to begin a four-game series. RHP Dylan Axelrod will start for Charlotte and LHP Brian Matusz will start for the Tides.
