International League Names Players of the Week

The International League announced today that Columbus outfielder Chad Huffman and Pawtucket pitcher Matt Fox have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from

August 8-14. This marks the second award for Huffman this season (April 18-24) and seventh overall for Columbus, the most in the League. Fox is the third player from Pawtucket to be so honored this season.

CHAD HUFFMAN, Columbus Clippers IL BATTER OF THE WEEK

Chad Huffman entered the week with a six-game hitting streak and managed to double it over his next six contests. For the week, Huffman led the IL with 13 hits, seven extra-base hits, a .591 batting average, a .640 on-base percentage, and a 1.045 slugging percentage. He was also 2nd in the League with 6 RBI. Huffman collected multiple hits in four of his six games this week, helping him accumulate five doubles, a triple, and a home run. Behind Huffman, the Clippers have extended their lead in the IL West Division to 12.5 games over Indianapolis.

26-year-old Chad Huffman is in his third season at the Triple-A level. He spent 2009 with Portland (San Diego), where he hit .269 with 20 HR and 68 RBI and won the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby. Last season he played 104 games for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, hitting .274 with 10 HR and 45 RBI, while also getting his first taste of the big leagues with the New York Yankees. Huffman is a native of Houston, Texas.

MATT FOX, Pawtucket Red Sox IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Triple-A All-Star Matt Fox tossed a pair of brilliant games for the 1st-place PawSox this week, leading the League with two wins, 15.0 innings pitched, a 0.40 WHIP, and a .082 average against while finishing 2nd in strikeouts with 15. Tuesday in Charlotte, Fox went 6.0 innings (of a 7-inning game), allowing just one run on two hits while striking out eight as Pawtucket cruised to a 5-1 victory. Sunday at Gwinnett, Fox was even more dominant. He threw a two-hit shutout, Pawtucket's first complete game all season. He fanned seven and retired 15 of the last 16 batters he faced to close out a 5-0 win for the PawSox. Opponents are hitting a mere .236 against Fox this season, the 4th-lowest mark in the League.

28-year-old Matt Fox was originally drafted in 2004 by Minnesota. He remained in the Twins organization until late last season when he was claimed off waivers by Boston. He spent the majority of last season with Rochester, posting a 6-9 record with a 3.95 ERA.
