Norfolk Tides News Release
Norfolk rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 6-4 to top the Syracuse Chiefs 7-6 Thursday afternoon at Harbor Park.
With the score knotted at 6-6 in the eighth, the Tides took advantage of a Syracuse miscue to plate the go-ahead run. Jonathan Tucker grounded a bases loaded, one-out grounder to third baseman Seth Bynum, who threw home to Jamie Burke for the second out of the inning. Burke then attempted to complete a double play at first base, but his throw hit Tucker and bounded into right field, allowing Paco Figueroa to score the winning run from second base.
After recording the final out of the eighth, Dennis Sarfate (2-1) then retired the Chiefs in order in the ninth to earn the win, striking out three.
The Tides collected 13 hits and drew 10 walks in the contest, while Syracuse committed four errors and used five different pitchers. Norfolk also left a season-high 16 men on base but took three of four from the Chiefs to earn their first home series win since June 21-24 vs. Lehigh Valley.
Nolan Reimold had three hits and an RBI to lead Norfolk's offense, while Michael Aubrey continued his torrid tear with two hits, two walks and an RBI. Matt Angle and Tucker also added two hits apiece for Norfolk, which has now won five of its last seven games.
The Tides will take to the road Friday night for the start of an eight-game road trip through Pennsylvania. Norfolk will send Troy Patton (6-9, 4.91) to the mound against left-hander Brian Mazone (5-10, 3.90), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
