G-Braves Clinch Series Win Over Yankees

The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees 5-2 on Thursday night at PNC Field. Every Gwinnett player had at least 1 hit in the game. With the win, Gwinnett earned the series victory 3-1. Gwinnett (46-53) remains 13 games behind Durham for first place in the International League South division. Scranton/Wilkes Barre (57-42) remains in first place in the IL North and 3.5 games ahead of Syracuse.

It Was Over When: In the bottom of the 9th and the G-Braves ahead 5-2 with 1 out, Gwinnett closer Craig Kimbrel allowed 2 Yankees to end up on first and second base. He then struck out Greg Golson and Kevin Russo for the final two outs of the game.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starter Cristhian Martinez (3-1) struck out 6 and allowed only 1 run on 4 hits in 6.2 IP.

At the plate: Timmons was 3-for 5 with a home run and 2 RBI. Freddie Freeman was 3-for-5 with a run scored. Matt Young was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Starter Zach McAllister (7-7) allowed 4 runs on 10 hits in 5.1 IP.

At the plate: Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Jorge Vazquez was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

On Deck: Gwinnett returns to Coolray Field to take on Louisville in the first game of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. G-Braves LHP Jose Ortegano (2-7, 6.12 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Sam LeCure (6-2, 2.55 ERA) of the Bats.
