Norfolk, VA - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost to the Norfolk Tides by a score of 7-6 on Thursday afternoon. The Tides scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a throwing error by Chiefs catcher Jamie Burke, and took the series three games to one.

Syracuse (54-45) touched up Tides starter Zach Britton in the first inning. Jason Botts used an RBI single and Justin Maxwell an RBI double to put Syracuse in the lead 2-0 before two batters had been retired. Later in the inning, Luis Ordaz hit a ground ball to shortstop Robert Andino, but it was misplayed, and the third run of the inning scored.

In the bottom of the first, Norfolk (47-53) responded with two runs on sacrifice flies from Robert Andino and Rhyne Hughes to make it 3-2 Syracuse after one.

Norfolk took the lead in the fourth. Robert Andino collected his second RBI of the game on a double to right to tie the game at three. The next batter, Michael Aubrey, lined a single to left to score Andino and give the Tides a 4-3 lead. Aubrey knocked Syracuse starter Shairon Martis from the ballgame after just 3 1/3 innings. It was the first time in 15 outings that Martis did not throw at least five innings.

In the fifth, the Chiefs re-took the lead on a Luis Ordaz two-run triple. On Tuesday night Ordaz hit his first double of the season, on Wednesday night he hit his first home run, and Thursday afternoon his first triple in 2010. That put Syracuse back on top 5-4. Pedro Lopez would follow with a sac fly to score Ordaz and give the Chiefs a 6-4 advantage.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tides used bases loaded walks delivered by Collin Balester and Atahualpa Severino to tie the game up at six. Then, in the bottom of the eighth inning, with the bases loaded and one out, Jonathan Tucker hit a ground ball to the third baseman Seth Bynum. He threw home for the second out of the inning, and Chiefs catcher Jamie Burke's throw to first base eluded Jason Botts which allowed Paco Figueroa to score from second base. Burke had come on as a replacement for Carlos Maldonado who was ejected in the 6th inning. Chiefs manager Trent Jewett was also ejected after the conclusion of the fourth inning.

On Friday night, the Chiefs will begin a four game series with the Durham Bulls. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
