
Tides Outlast Braves In 14

Norfolk, VA - The Norfolk Tides beat the Richmond Braves 8-7 in 14 innings Wednesday at Harbor Park. The Tides trailed by four in the eighth inning but rallied to win the first meeting of the year between theses clubs.
The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Josh Anderson scampered home on a double play ball. They stretched that advantage to 4-0 with a three run second. Wes Timmons doubled two runs home and Brent Lillibridge chased a run home with a sacrifice fly. The Tides breached the scoreboard with two runs in the third. Tyke Redman knocked in a run with a single and Elder Torres doubled a run in to cut the Braves lead to 4-2. Anderson scored on an error in the sixth to give the Braves a 5-2 lead. The Tides answered with a run in the home half on an RBI single by Scott Moore. The Braves bumped their lead to 7-3 in the seventh. J.C. Holt knocked in a run with a single and Timmons produced a run with a double. But Norfolk responded with a three run double by Alex Cintron in the eighth that trimmed Richmond's lead to 7-6. The Tides forced extra innings with a home run in the last of the ninth by Mike Costanzo. In the 14th Cintron smacked a one out single with the bases loaded to knock in the winning run.
The Braves set a new franchise record with eight stolen bases in the game, including three by Anderson. Ryan Bukvich picked up the win. Matt DeSalvo took the loss. Holt and Timmons had three hits each for the Braves. Torres had four hits for the Tides.
The two clubs continue their series Thursday at 12:15 at Harbor Park. Jo-Jo Reyes will pitch for the Braves against Radhames Liz. The Braves and Tides head to Richmond Friday for a 7 PM game at The Diamond. For more information on Braves tickets please call 359-4444 or visit www.rbraves.com.
