Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Louisville jumped out to a seven-run lead after four innings and hung on for a 7-5 win over Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field.
The Bats improve to 13-7 on the season and 8-4 on the road, while the Indians drop to 12-8 overall and 7-3 at home.
Louisville got the scoring started with three unearned runs in the first inning. CF Chris Dickerson scored on RF Jolbert Cabrera's groundout, while LF Jay Bruce and 1B Kevin Barker crossed the plate on a two-run triple by 3B Adam Rosales.
The Bats extended their lead in the third when Barker launched a solo home run to right field. Louisville added to its cushion in the fourth when SS Paul Janish singled, stole second and came around to score on 2B Andy Green's double. Dickerson then drove in Green with a triple and later scored on an Indians error.
Bats LHP Adam Pettyjohn (5.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) improved to 2-0 with the win, while RHP Jon Adkins (2.0 IP, 1 BB) registered his third save of the season.
Indianapolis RHP Bryan Bullington (5.0 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO) slipped to 0-3 with the loss.
The Indians battled back in the fifth when Louisville committed three errors. 2B Matt Kata reached on a two-base error before scoring on 1B Adam Boeve's single. Then, after a walk by SS Josh Wilson, Boeve came plateward on another Bats miscue.
The Tribe added three runs in the sixth when Kata blasted a three-run dinger to left field after singles by LF Craig Wilson and C Michel Hernandez.
Seven Indians recorded at least one hit. CF Andrew McCutchen extended his season-best hitting streak to 11 games, while PH Kevin Thompson has now reached base in 17 consecutive affairs.
Green (2-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI), Dickerson (2-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI), and Janish (2-for-4, 1 R) all notched multiple hits for the Bats.
The teams continue their four-game series on Thursday at 7 p.m. RHP Justin Lehr is slated to start for Louisville, while RHP Jason Davis is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.

Post-game quotes -- INF Matt Kata
(on his sixth-inning home run)
"I went to the plate with an aggressive mindset, and got a first-pitch fastball up in the zone."
(on scoring four runs in the past two games)
"I haven't had an ideal start to the season (batting average is .231), but I'm trying to turn things around. All you can do is continue to work hard and have quality at-bats. I will eventually get in a groove and find those hits."
(on the Indianapolis bullpen shutting down opponents)
"Our bullpen has been great this season. Those guys have been ready to contribute. They've been throwing a lot of strikes, and keeping us in games. On a day like today (when you fall behind 7-0), all you ask for is a chance in the ninth inning. We certainly got that, but the offense came up a little short."
