
Tides hold off Braves

Richmond, VA - The Norfolk Tides beat the Richmond Braves 5-4 Sunday at The Diamond. The Tides turned back a furious Braves comeback after Norfolk bolted out to a 5-0 lead. The Braves club record losing streak hit 11 games.
The Tides took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sac fly by Anderson Hernandez. Rodney Nye singled a run home in the sixth to make it 2-0. The Tides stretched their lead to 3-0 on an RBI single by Victor Diaz in the seventh. Norfolk pushed two more across in the eight on an Angel Pagan RBI double and a run producing ground ball by Prentice Redman. The Braves rallied back for two runs in the last of the eighth on an RBI triple by Scott Pratt and a wild pitch. In the ninth an infield single by Jorge Vazquez and a throwing error cut the Tides lead to 5-4. But with the tying run in scoring position Eric Valent ended the game with a diving catch in left field.
Jose Santiago earned the win. Kevin Barry took the loss. Juan Padilla picked up a save. Pagan had three hits for the Tides. Pratt had three hits for the Braves.
