July 10, 2005 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the finale of their three-game set from Dunn Tire Park (2:05 p.m.). The Herd will be looking to avoid the sweep as the Red Wings have won the first two games of the series. With the All-Star break starting on Monday, the Bisons will look to go in on a winning note with LHP Brian Tallet on the mound. The southpaw spent a couple days in Cleveland this past week but did not pitch for the Tribe. His last outing was eight days ago, when he pitched six innings in a victory over Ottawa on July 2. Tallet will be up against RHP Henry Bonilla. Bonilla has been used exclusively out of the pen since May 28 (12 outings), but is 2-2 with a 4.78ERA in six starts for the Wings this year.
NO REST FOR WEARY: The All-Star break won't be three days of rest for some Bisons. Outfielder Ernie Young and infielders Jake Gautreau and Jeff Liefer will be traveling to Sacramento, CA for the 18th annual Triple-A All-Star game (Tuesday, 10:00 p.m. EST, ESPN2). Once they get there, they will be joined by skipper Marty Brown and catcher Ryan Garko, who are currently in Detroit, MI for tonight's XM Satellite Radio Future's Game. Pitcher Fernando Cabrera and infielder Brandon Phillips were also named to the 2005 International League All-Star Team, but will miss the game because of promotions to Cleveland.
FIRST BIG FLY: Infielder Jose Morban hit his first Bisons home run last night. In the 6th inning, Morban blasted a three-run shot deep into the Heron's Landing Party Deck in right field. Morban was signed by Cleveland as a free agent this past off-season. He had spent the previous two seasons in the Baltimore Orioles' organization.
BISONS DEBUT: The newest Bison, Ramon Vazquez, went 1-4 with a single in his first game in Buffalo. The infielder came over to the organization on Thursday in a trade with the Boston Red Sox. Prior to his time this season with Boston, Vazquez spent the majority of three seasons with the San Diego Padres.
SOLID RELIEF: Bisons' reliever Jake Robbins has been extremely solid of late. Robbins has allowed just one run in his last 12 outings, a stretch that includes 11.1 innings or work. During that time, he has allowed just eight hits while striking out three batters and picking up four saves. On the season, Robbins is tied for fifth in the International League with 14 saves.
THRUWAY SERIES: With their two victories in this series, the Red Wings have taken over first place in the 2005 Thruway Cup Series. Rochester is 11-10, a half game better that the Syracuse SkyChiefs (10-10). Buffalo is third place at 10-11.
