Lynx Split Saturday Doubleheader Against Scranton

International League Final - Saturday, July 9th, 2005 @ Lynx Stadium, Ottawa, Ontario

The Ottawa Lynx split their doubleheader with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons on Saturday afternoon. In game one, Scranton broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the 7th inning to win the game 5-4. In the second game, RHP Tony Fiore threw 6.0 strong innings and C Ryan Hubele blasted a 3-run homer in the 6th inning en route to a 5-3 Lynx victory.

Game #1

Lynx Player of the Game: INF Ed Rogers went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored in the contest.

Recap: The Lynx got off to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st, thanks to an RBI groundout by 1B Alejandro Freire and an RBI single off the bat of 3B Napoleon Calzado. After 2B Bernie Castro's sac fly gave Ottawa a 3-0 lead, Scranton came back with two runs of their own in both the 3rd and 4th innings, making it 4-3. The Lynx pulled even in the bottom of the 4th, with Castro picking up the RBI on a fielder's choice groundout. The game remained tied at 4 apiece until the Red Barons plated the winning run in the top of the 7th with an RBI groundout.

Game #2

Lynx Player of the Game: C Ryan Hubele hit a 3-run homer and drove in 4 of the 5 Lynx runs.

Recap: For the second game in a row the Lynx started strong, scoring two runs in the 2nd inning. 3B Kris Wilken lined an RBI single scoring DH Alejandro Freire. Later on in the inning, C Ryan Hubele lifted a sacrifice fly to deep right to score 1B Walter Young. Scranton put up single runs in the 5th and 6th innings to tie the game at 2. Ottawa quickly re-took the lead in the bottom half of the inning. After a Bobby Darula single, Wilken dropped down a sacrifice bunt and SS Mike Moriarty singled to put runners on first and third with one out. Ryan Hubele then took a Franklin Perez delivery deep over the left field wall for a game-breaking 3-run homer. The Red Barons brought the tying run to the plate in the 7th but RHP Aaron Rakers shut the door to record his 2nd save of the season.

Next Game: The Lynx and Red Barons complete their 4-game series on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 pm. Probable pitchers for tomorrow:
