Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - With the start of the 2010-11 season right around the corner, the Phantoms face their first trial of the year. This is a bittersweet time for the organization as fourth year goalie Jordan Tibbett leaves Youngstown for the starting job at Mercyhurst College.
"All my hard work has paid off," said Tibbett. "I'm really happy to see it all come together and I am vey excited to have this opportunity."
While the Phantoms are ecstatic to see Jordan move on to a higher level, they now face their first test of this very young season.
"For Jordan it was a matter of when," said Head Coach Curtis Carr. "He would have been one of the top goalies in this league this year, but to be the number one goalie on the college level is something not too many people would pass on. We are happy for Jordan and for the team we are very fortunate to have a high caliber goalie like (Matthew) O'Connor in our locker room."
According to Mercyhurst Head Coach Rick Gotkin, Tibbett will prove to be an impact goalie now and in the future.
"We are very excited that Jordan is joining our hockey team," said Gotkin. "We are not only adding a terrific goalie, but an exceptional young man. He (Tibbett) comes from a great program and he adds a ton of depth to our roster. He will immediately challenge for the number one spot in net."
Tibbett is slated to compete for the number one goalie job at Mercyhurst, but the added pressure is nothing that he cannot handle.
"There is pressure anytime, no matter where you are playing," said Tibbett. "You have to work hard and you have to play at a high level no matter what."
Jordan Tibbett's first test will be a dandy as the Mercyhurst Lakers travel to the Yost Ice Arena to take on the Michigan Wolverines on October 2nd.
