Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
J. T. Restko doubled home Mike Sullivan in the bottom of the tenth inning for the only run of the game as the Windy City ThunderBolts picked up their first win of the season, topping the Rockford RiverHawks 1-0 in 10 innings.
Early on the game was controlled by the pitchers as both Stephen Flake and Kyle Wright matched each other pitch for pitch. Flake went seven for Windy City, scattering six hits, not allowing a run or a walk, striking out six. Not to be outdone was Wright who allowed just three hits over six while not surrendering a run. Wright walked five and struck out six in the game.
Both teams threatened in the seventh and eighth, but neither were able to push a run across. In the ninth, the ThunderBolts put a runner in scoring position, but a diving catch in rightfield by Mike Kalina saved the game for Rockford.
Fabian Gomez returned to the mound for his third inning of work in the tenth and it proved to be one inning too many as Mike Sullivan led off with a double. Restko came up and erased a frustrating day at the plate, lacing a double down the rightfield line, scoring Sullivan for the 1-0 Windy City win.
Dustin Pease (1-0) recorded the final out of the top of the tenth and got the win for the âBolts. Gomez (0-1) took the loss.
In the third game of the series Tyler Kelsey will go for Windy City against Brett Durand for Rockford. Saturday's game features postgame fireworks presented by Standard Bank.
