Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - Scoring six runs in the top of the first inning, the McAllen Thunder took an early lead to roll past the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 7-3 Friday night at Harlingen Field.

Along with the big offensive output, starting pitcher JT Zink pitched a complete game for the Thunder, giving up just three runs on seven hits.

Eddie Dennis Jr. started for the WhiteWings, but recorded just one out before getting pulled after allowing six runs - five earned - and five hits.

The big first inning started when Antoin Gray hit an RBI double to make the score 1-0 for the Thunder. Vic Ferrante made it 2-0 with a sac fly RBI before Carl Johnson hit two runners home with a double to give the Thunder a 4-0 lead. From there, the onslaught was on as Garrett Breda and Cody McMorris both singled to bring in two more runs, making it 6-0.

With a solid performance from Zink, the WhiteWings were never able to get back into the game. Recording their first hit not until the fourth inning, the WhiteWings only had three runners cross home plate against Zink.

The WhiteWings play game three of their four-game series against McAllen tomorrow night at Harlingen Field for Sandy Ann Padilla Cancer Awareness Night. Game time is at 7:05 PM.
