Marshall Lifts Roadrunners Past Colts

EDINBURG, Texas - Derek Marshall spoiled Brian Henschel's complete game bid with a two-run walk off single sending the Edinburg Roadrunners past the San Angelo Colts 3-2 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Tim Haines started the game for Edinburg but received a no decision after allowing one run on four hits and striking out 11.

Daryl Jones got the Colts (52-34) on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning with his 28th home run of the season making it 1-0.

The Roadrunners (35-52) responded in the bottom of the fourth against Brian Henschel. Stantrel Smith led off with a single to right and then stole his league leading 38th base of the season. After moving to third on a ground ball, Smith came into score on an RBI single by Osiel Flores tying the game at one.

With the game still tied at one, Mark Ramos started the top of the eighth with a single and then moved to second on a throwing error. A wild pitch then moved Ramos to third and passed ball allowed him to score giving the Colts the 2-1 edge.

In the bottom of the ninth, Smith led off with a single and then moved to second on another stolen base. A fielding error then allowed R.J. Harris to reach putting runners on the corners. After an intentional walk to Robert Matlock, which loaded the bases, Derek Marshall hit a two-run walk-off single that scored Smith and Harris giving Edinburg the 3-2 win.

Aaron Guerra (7-7) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless top of the ninth and Henschel (7-8) picked up the loss for San Angelo.

The Roadrunners and Colts will play the third game of their four-game series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Ryan Falcon (3-0) is expected to face Logan Williamson (11-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
