Thunder Win Third Straight

Robstown, TX - Coastal Bend starter Frank O. James delivered an exceptional performance on the mound and the offense provided the run support resulting in a 5-1 win for the Thunder tonight at Fairgrounds Field. James looked strong and very comfortable on the mound this evening en route to his third win of the season. The Coastal Bend lefty threw eight innings, allowed one unearned run, and scattered seven hits in the contest. The win sends Coastal Bend into a tie with Amarillo for second place in United League Baseball with a record of 20-18. The Thunder home record also improves to 14-4 at Fairgrounds Field this season.

Thunder first baseman Bryan Vickers led the charge for the offense this evening with home run and two RBIs to his credit. Seven of the nine batters in the Coastal Bend lineup had at least one hit. Michael Lewis, Alfred Joseph, Amadeo Zazueta, and Leivi Ventura were the Thunder hitters with multiple hits in tonight's contest. Joseph added a walk and two runs scored, while Zazueta scored a run too. Leivi Ventura chipped in an RBI and scored a run as well.

Bryan Vickers got the offense started giving the home team a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning home run over the leftfield wall.

Amarillo came back to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Keanon Simon led off with a bunt single and advanced to third as Leivi Ventura's throw to first ended up in the visitor's bullpen. Simon scored on the next pitch on Eric Smith's line drive single to left to make the score 1-1.

Coastal Bend took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alfred Joseph lead off with a walk, stole second, and scored on a single to center from Amadeo Zazueta. Ventura reached on error and on the play Zazueta was able to come around and score. After a Carlos Rodriguez single, Bryan Vickers drove a sacrifice fly to right center to score Ventura from third.

The Thunder added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with four singles in the inning. Joseph came in to score on an RBI single by Leivi Ventura.

David Parker closed the game out for the Thunder and pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Game three of this four game series is Monday night at 7:05 at Fairgrounds Field. Margarita Monday is also ladies' night, where all women 21 and over get in FREE. Come on out and support your hometown team.
