
WhiteWings Activate Santana, Sign Pitcher

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today they have activated outfielder Rico Santana from the temporarily inactive list. They also signed right-handed pitcher Wendy Rosa
To make room on the roster, the WhiteWings released pitcher Maximino de la Cruz and outfielder Jonathan Poterson,
Currently riding a six-game hitting streak (10-20, .500) and eight- game on-base streak (.516 on-base percentage), Santana has been out since June 28 with a groin injury. He made a pinch-hitting appearance on July 3, but that has been his only action. Santana is hitting .338 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 13 RBI to go with 14 runs scored. He has also stolen four bases in four attempts in 18 games. Santana was the opening day leftfielder, and has also played four games in centerfield.
Rosa spent the last four seasons in the New York Mets minor league system, going 7-5 with two saves with a 3.25 ERA. In 71 games (11 starts), he has pitched 141.1 innings, striking out 176 while allowing 102 hits and 105 walks. In 2007, he was fourth in strikeouts per nine innings (13.50) and first in opponents batting average (.148) for the Gulf Coast Mets (Rookie Level).
De la Cruz was 1-1 with a 7.84 ERA in five starts since joining the WhiteWings. Including his two starts for Laredo, de la Cruz was 1-2 with an 8.90 ERA. In 29.1 innings, he allowed 51 hits and 17 walks while striking out 21. Opponents hit .402 against de la Cruz.
Poterson hit .242 with eight home runs (third in the league) and 23 RBI. Poterson hit seven of his home runs during the first 11 games of the season.
