Trenton Thunder News Release
(Harrisburg, PA)- Jason Jones allowed one earned run in six innings and Jeff Kennard added three shutout innings of relief for his 1st save in a 6-3 Thunder win on Wednesday night. The win is 10th in the last 13 games for Trenton.
The hitters gave the Thunder (68-54) a 3-0 lead in the 1st Inning. Harrisburg starter Garrett Mock walked the first two batters of the night and then allowed a two-run double to 1B Randy Ruiz for the first runs of the night. RF Shelley Duncan added an RBI double later in the inning for a 3-0 advantage. But Harrisburg (57-65) came back to tie the game off Jones with a solo homer by RF Cristian Guerrero in the 2nd Inning and a pair of unearned runs in the 3rd Inning.
Trenton went ahead 4-3 in the 4th Inning thanks to a solo homer by SS Felix Escalona, his 7th of the year, off of Mock. Mock (0-2) allowed four runs in seven innings for the loss. Meanwhile, Jones had help from his defense to keep the Thunder in front. LF Justin Christian took a homer away from Senators C Russ Cleveland with a leaping catch over the wall in the 4th Inning. The Thunder then turned double plays to end the next two innings. Jones (4-2) got the win yielding three runs (one earned) in six innings.
Jeff Kennard then came on to work the final three innings shutout to earn his 1st save of the season and his first overall since 2003. The Thunder gave him insurance with two unearned runs in the 9th Inning on a throwing error by Harrisburg 1B Josh Whitesell.
The series concludes on Thursday at 6:35 PM. Tyler Clippard (9-10, 3.78) starts for the Thunder against Harrisburg's Justin Echols (5-7, 4.30).
