RECENTLY...The Aeros took two of three from Portland over the weekend, going 3-3 in their last road trip.
LAST NIGHT...Errors proved to be disastrous...The Aeros committed a total three errors, tying their season high, as they gave up four unearned runs, including three in the eighth, losing to Reading 4-3. RHP TRAVIS FOLEY (3-5) was charged with the loss.
TONIGHT...Akron lost the first of the three game series vs. the Reading Phillies who are currently on a seven-game winning streak. However with the hot hand of RHP ADAM MILLER (13-5) starting on the mound tonight could very easily shut down any offense Reading has to offer...Miller comes into tonight's game with a complete game shutout in his last time out. Tonight's match-up begins at 7:05 P.M.
MILLER TIME...RHP ADAM MILLER has now won six straight decisions in his last seven games pitched with an ERA of 0.39, (45.2 IP, 29 H, 4R, 2 ER, 12 BB, 52 SO) over that stretch...Adam is also among league leaders in several categories as he leads in wins (13), is third in strikeouts (139), and has the fourth lowest earned-run avg. (2.81).
RECENT TRANSACTIONS... -On Monday August 14, RHP SCOTT ROEHL was sent to Class A Kinston...The Aeros received LHP REID SANTOS from Class A Lake County. OTHER ROSTER MOVES... -On Thursday August 10, OF JON VAN EVERY was sent to Triple A Buffalo...The Aeros received LHP AARON LAFFEY from Class A Lake County...1B/OF RYAN MULHERN was activated from the Disabled List. -On Tuesday August 8, LHP AARON LAFFEY was sent to Class A Lake County...The Aeros received RHP JENSEN LEWIS from Class A Kinston
STARTING OUT GREAT...After 24 games with the Aeros, OF BRIAN BARTON is batting .349 (30-86, 5 HR, 14 RBI and 11 SB)...OF TREVOR CROWE has a hit in 14 of his first 18 games with Akron, and is batting .288 (21-73, 12 R, 5 2B and11 SB).
HIGH HONORS...RHP ADAM MILLER was named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the Month of July. He compiled a perfect 4-0 record to go along with 30 strikeouts, nine walks, a 0.29 ERA and a .232 opponent's batting average in 30.2 innings of work.
JULY'S BEST BATS... OF RYAN GOLESKI was among the league's best, batting .308 (32-104, 18 R, 11 2B, 5 HR, 25 RBI, 1 SB) with a slugging percentage of .558...OF BRIAN BARTON had at least one hit in 11 of the 12 games he played in the month, batting .488 (20-41) ...He also showed power and speed, with five home runs and eight stolen bases over his first 12 games with Akron.
LEAGUE LEADERS...RHP ADAM MILLER is in the lead in wins (13), is third in strikeouts (128) and also has the fourth lowest ERA (2.81)...RHP JIM ED WARDEN is tied for second in appearances (47)...RHP SEAN SMITH has the eighth lowest ERA (3.17)...2B EIDER TORRES is second in stolen bases (40)...OF BRAD SNYDER is third in runs scored (67).
AS A TEAM...The Aeros lead the Eastern League in batting average (.272), hits (1110), stolen bases (158) and runs scored (575) ...On the hill, Akron leads the Eastern League in shutouts (16) and is second in strikeouts (919).
