
Fisher Cats fall 4-2 in Portland

(Portland) - Portland (63-58) defeated New Hampshire (53-69) for the second straight night, winning 4-2 Wednesday before a sell out crowd of 7,368 at Hadlock Field. LHP Ricky Romero suffered the loss despite allowing only 1 earned run in 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6. The Fisher Cats took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. 3B Danny Solano singled, went to second on SS Brad Hassey's walk, and scored on a single by RF Dustin Majewski.
Portland evened the score at 1-1 in the 2nd. C Dusty Brown (1-2, 2 RBI) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring DH Luis Jimenez, who had walked, stole second and advanced to third on a Romero error.
The Sea Dogs scored three runs in the 6th off Romero (0-6). Two of the runs were unearned. LF Chris Durbin reached on 3B Danny Solano's error. He scored on a triple by CF Matt Van Der Bosch. Brandon Moss then doubled Van Der Bosch home, and Brown singled Moss home.
2B Manny Mayorson (2-for-5, 2 doubles) doubled off winning pitcher Kyle Jackson (2-1) in the 7th. DH Curtis Thigpen singled Mayorson to third, and 1B Chip Cannon followed with an RBI single.
Portland reliever Barry Hertzler worked 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit, and striking out three to earn his fifth save.
The series concludes Thursday night at 7:05pm with RHP Mike MacDonald (9-9, 4.10) scheduled for New Hampshire against Portland RHP Devern Hansack (6-6, 3.79). The game will be carried live by WTPL-FM with Bob Lipman at 6:50pm.
