Trenton Thunder News Release

Trenton, NJ- Rene Rivera provided the only offense on Thursday with a solo home run in the 12th inning for a 1-0 Thunder win over New Hampshire. LHP Andy Pettitte set the tone for the pitching in a rehab start to give Trenton a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five series in round one of the playoffs.

Rivera hit his second home run of the postseason, a game-winning blast to center in the bottom of the 12th for the 1-0 win. The Thunder pitching of Pettitte, Adam Warren, Wilkins Arias and Josh Schmidt kept New Hampshire scoreless for the second consecutive night.

Pettitte came out to start his first Eastern League game since 2002 in a rehab with Norwich and did not disappoint the 8,072 fans on hand at Waterfront Park. On a strict pitch count, Pettitte was able to get through four innings and allowed two hits, while striking out four batters. RHP Adam Warren came on in relief of Pettitte and tossed another five shutout innings, limiting New Hampshire to just two hits while striking out nine.

New Hampshire RHP Zach Stewart was able to match Pettitte and Warren as he held the Thunder for just three hits and picked up ten strikeouts in seven innings of work.

After Trenton failed to bring home the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, the scoreless game was sent to extra innings with both teams missing opportunities. Rivera finally ended the night with the home run off Trystan Magnuson.

The Thunder and Fisher Cats will play game three of the ELDS on Friday night at 6:35 PM from New Hampshire. LHP Manuel Banuelos will take the mound for the Thunder while New Hampshire goes with RHP Scott Richmond. Catch all the action on 107.7 FM The Bronc or online at www.trentonthunder.com .
