Thunder Take Top Spot in Latest Coaches Poll

Wichita, KS (January 31st) - The Central Hockey League announced today that Wichita (26-14-3) has climbed to the top of the most recent Sher-Wood Coaches Poll. For the first time this season, Wichita takes the top spot from the Allen Americans, who had been number one since the first coaches poll near the beginning of the year.

The first place votes were divided among three teams with the Thunder claiming five first-place nods, the Americans (25-8-6) earning four and the Fort Worth Brahmas (24-14-4) earning one.

The poll is released on or near the beginning and middle of each month throughout the regular season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place earn nine points and so on.

The biggest move in the most recent poll belongs to the Bloomington Blaze (22-17-2), who jumped up two spots from seventh to fifth. The Missouri Mavericks (21-14-4) are the other top-five club coming in at number four.

Rounding out the top 10 is Denver at six, Rapid City at seven, Quad City at eight, Arizona at nine and Tulsa in 10th. For complete results, click http://www.centralhockeyleague.com/pressroom/poll/ .

Wichita heads out of town to take on Tulsa this Saturday night. The Thunder returns home on Friday, February 8th against the Oilers for Military Appreciation Night.
