Westblom Named 50/50 Central Rookie of the Month

FORT WORTH, Texas (January 31) - The Central Hockey League announced Thursday that Fort Worth Brahmas netminder Kristofer Westblom - rid5229273&seasonid9603 was named 50/50 Central Rookie of the Month for January.
In eight starts in January, Westblom went 7-1-0 with a 2.58 goals against average and .899 save percentage. The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan native has won his last six starts, dating back to January 11 when the Brahmas defeated the Allen Americans on the road by the final score of 4-3. The seven wins in January doubled Westblom's previous season total, giving him 14 so far in 2012-2013.
Westblom also recorded his league-leading third shutout of the season earlier this month. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound netminder blanked the Rapid City Rush at the Fort Worth Convention Center January 4 to help the Brahmas seal a 1-0 victory. Westblom stopped all 23 shots he faced, improving to 3-0-0 at the Convention Center with two shutouts and only one goal allowed on 67 total shots.
This is the fifth accolade awarded to a Brahma this season and second for Westblom. The rookie won Goaltender of the Week for the period ending December 2. Wedensday, Fort Worth forward John Snowden was named CHL First Star of the Month for January, adding to his Player of the Week award he earned earlier in the month for his play during the period ending January 13. Phil Fox was also named Player of the Week for the period ending November 18.
The Brahmas host back-to-back home games at the NYTEX Sports Centre this weekend: Friday, February 1 versus the Rapid City Rush and Saturday, February 2 versus the Arizona Sundogs. Friday night, the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free foam puck courtesy of Uncle Bob's Self Storage.
