Thunder Swept in Weekend Series vs. Rapid City

Rapid City, SD - Wichita battled back from a three-goal deficit, but a late penalty allowed Rapid City to hold on for a 7-4 victory on Saturday night at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The Thunder scored twice in the third and trailed 5-4 with just over two minutes to go, but a double minor for high sticking was called on Stefan Fournier and the Rush took advantage. Rapid City scored two empty net power play goals down the stretch.
Chris Leibinger got things started for Rapid City just 3:55 into the first. He got to a loose puck near the left post and put it past Ty Rimmer to make it 1-0. Wichita answered less than three minutes later as PC Labrie fired a wrist shot from the left circle past Adam Carlson to make it 1-1. The Rush potted the next three to take a three-goal lead into the first intermission. Leibinger added his second of the frame at 7:56 to re-gain the lead at 2-1. Brandon Fehd scored his second of the year off a face-off at 12:34 to make it 3-1. At 17:01, Justin Faryna tallied a power play goal to make it a 4-1 margin.
In the second, Tyler Poulsen potted his ninth of the year at 3:30 and gave the Rush their second power play goal of the contest. Lane Bauer got one back at 13:02 as he caught a pass in the slot, stepped through a defender and fired a shot past Carlson for a shorthanded goal.
Wichita was awarded a two-man opportunity and scored on both when Dylan Quaile and Richard Coyne were called for minor penalties. Jeremy Beaudry beat Carlson at 5:45 to cut the lead to 5-3 with his fifth of the season. Fournier got a tip on a Keoni Texeira shot and made it 5-4.
Rapid City re-gained a two-goal margin with two late empty net power play tallies to skate away with a 7-4 win. Tyler Poulsen and Shaq Merasty ended any comeback attempt for the Thunder in the final minutes to help Rapid City to the victory.
The Thunder went 2-for-3 on the man advantage. Labrie led the Thunder with five shots on net and added his 14th of the year. Texeira added another power play assist to his league-leading total.
