August 18, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder added more size, skill and a wealth of experience today signing player/assistant coach Scott Allison.
A former first round pick (17th overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in 1990, Allison joins the Thunder after spending the last seven years in England. He spent five of those seasons with the Sheffield Steelers of the British Super League, where he was a teammate of Thunder head coach Derek Laxdal from 1998-2000. Allison led the Steelers in scoring in 2002 with 22 goals and 45 points in 46 games.
"Scott and his wife Michelle are very excited to come to Wichita, along with their five-year-old son Sam and their two-year-old son Ben", said Laxdal. "His resume speaks for itself. He can hit, fight, score, penalty kill and his leadership qualities will be evident both on and off the ice."
A 6-4, 210-pound left wing, Allison turned pro in 1992 after a phenomenal final season in the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he picked up 82 points and 238 penalty minutes while with the Moose Jaw Warriors. Prior to playing overseas he split six years between the American Hockey League (AHL) and the International Hockey League (IHL), including three seasons with the AHL's Cape Breton Oilers, Edmonton's top farm team.
Allison had another great season in 2003-04, picking up 20 goals in 35 games with the British National League's (BNL) Bracknell Bees. His 47 points were good for seventh overall in the BNL, while he also finished fifth in the BNL with 114 penalty minutes. Over his 13-year pro career, Allison has notched 334 points and 1471 penalty minutes in 593 games.
Allison is the 11th player signed for the upcoming season, Wichita's 13th in the CHL. The Thunder begin training camp on October 11th, then start the regular season on Friday, October 22nd at the Topeka Tarantulas. Wichita's home opener is set for Saturday, October 23rd versus the New Mexico Scorpions.
