
Thunder Rally to Beat Reading

(Reading, PA)- Trenton scored seven runs in the seventh inning, and went on for an 8-4 win over Reading on Thursday night from First Energy Stadium. Trenton took two out of three games in the series, for its first series win of the season against Reading in three opportunities. Trenton scored seven runs in the seventh inning for the second time in the series (Tuesday night).
Down 4-1, Trenton (54-56) scored seven runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-4 lead. Third baseman Marcos Vechionacci led off the inning with a solo home run off of Reading Starting Pitcher Vance Worley. Second baseman Justin Snyder followed with a single, which chased Worley out of the game. Reading Reliever Mike Zaguriski came on for Worley and promptly gave up a double to Trenton Center fielder Austin Krum which moved Snyder to third base. After a walk to Shortstop Reegie Corona, First baseman Chris Malec struck out for the first out of the inning. But, Right fielder Richie Robnett came through with a two-run single to tie the game at 4-4. With two outs in the frame, Designated Hitter Noah Hall came through with a two-run single off of Reading Reliever Chance Chapman to give the Thunder a 6-4 lead. Vechionacci then tallied his second hit of the inning, an RBI single, to extend the lead to 7-4. Second baseman Justin Snyder capped off the scoring with an RBI single. Trenton sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning, and Vechionacci and Snyder each had two hits in the inning. Snyder had his first three-hit game of the season. He went 3 x 3 with two runs, an RBI and a walk.
Reading (61-49) scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Right fielder Dominic Brown connected on an RBI triple off of Trenton Starting Pitcher Lance Pendleton. First Baseman Brian Stavisky also had an RBI single. Trenton got a run back in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single by Malec. Reading scored two runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Stavisky picked up a sacrifice fly RBI, and Third baseman Neil Sellers had an RBI double in the frame.
Trenton Starting Pitcher Lance Pendleton earned a no-decision. He allowed five hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings in his second Double-A start. He struck out eight and walked one. Reading Starting Pitcher Vance Worley yielded three runs and seven hits in six innings to also receive a no-decision. Thunder Reliever Josh Schmidt (8-2) picked up the win in relief as he retired the only batter he faced. Zagurski (2-4) allowed two hits and four runs in 2/3 inning to take the loss. Trenton returns to Waterfront Park on Friday night to start a four-game series against the Harrisburg Senators (Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals). RHP Ryan Pope (4-9, 5.45) will start for Trenton against Harrisburg RHP Jeff Mandel (2-0, 2.57). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
